THE SKI CLUB’S ON-SNOW EVENTS ARE BACK!

After months of lockdowns and travel restrictions, the
Club’s Ski with Chemmy event in July marked our first on-snow face-to-face event since the pandemic struck

Throughout the uncertainty of the Covid-19 pandemic, the Ski Club has done its utmost to keep its members engaged and connected with the mountains. Virtual talks, fitness classes and our new Members-only mobile app have all helped our Members stay in touch.

There is, however, nothing quite like skiing together, something we have all missed over the past year-and-a-half. Sharing memories, stories and the sport we all love is the foundation of the Club, and not having this has been difficult for all of us.

So we were thrilled to welcome Members back – both to snow and to our face-to-face events – as 24 Members gathered at Hemel Hempstead for our ‘Ski with Chemmy’ day. This event, which is becoming something of a staple in our summer calendar, gives Members the chance to ski with the best.

Chemmy Alcott is not only the Ski Club’s Honorary President, but she is also a four-time Winter Olympian in all downhill skiing disciplines. Chemmy was on hand throughout the day to provide instruction, tips and tricks, all to help our Members shake off the rust and get their ski legs back after so long off snow.

We were joined by representatives from Völkl UK, with a selection of the newest 2022 kit for our Members to test. All our Members, travelling from across the UK, found their way to the centre, to ski. And it was well worth the wait! With some having not touched snow in over two years, laps with rubber bands around their knees and holding poles over their shoulders brought them back to beautiful carving turns in no time at all.

By popular demand, Chemmy will be running more days in the autumn, including our next one on 28 September, again at the Hemel Hempstead Snow Centre.

Chemmy will be working once again with her CDC Performance coaching team, who come highly recommended by our Members following our summer session. Check out the Ski Club website for more details.
